ABOUT US

Danum Harriers are a Doncaster based Running Club, formed in February 2013 by a group of like minded runners, who wanted a simple, no-frills, road and off road running club. In January 2014, we affiliated to England Athletics as a sign of our intentions to provide additional competition to our members with the South Yorkshire road leagues, and Cross Country, along with national EA organised races. In November 2015 we also secured affiliation to Triathlon England, enabling our members to compete in triathlons and duathlons under the Danum Harriers name.

For those who are wondering how we came upon our name, Danum was, of course, the Roman name for the town of Doncaster.

Social Benefits: We are a friendly, non-elitist club, who pride ourselves on being low on fees and unnecessary rules, and big on support and encouragement, for runners of all abilities (min about 10 minute mile pace). About once every couple of months we have club socials, and through the summer months we do a social ‘away’ run from a local pub, which is always followed up by chip butties, beer and cake. Running in a group is more fun and often more productive than running on your own, and it is amazing how much more running a regular group gets you out, especially when the weather is not so great.

Training and racing: For those that wish to push themselves and bring their times down, there is plenty of opportunity to do that in our structured sessions. Alternatively, those that want to come down for a steady run will also find that they are well catered for too. Not everyone races but for those that are interested in doing so, many find that racing for a club can be a much more rewarding experience than racing unattached, the atmosphere and the support you can expect on your debut is often thought of as the tipping point where people really start thinking of themselves as a runner!

  1. Afternoon Neil
    We meet every Tuesday and Thursday at the Sportsman pub in Armthorpe @ 18:45 (rear car park).
    Tuesdays we do a quality session, so whether it be intervals or hills (all run together, that includes the faster and not as fast runners), and then Thursdays its a steady run where we split into three groups which run approx 8 min/mile – 9 min/mile and 10 min/mile.
    At 56 mins for 10k, you obviously have fitness there, and won’t have any issues fitting in with like paced people – we also have a number of Tri people at the club.
    If you’d like a baptism of fire, its our monthly 5k time trial tonight at 18:45 (22/7/14). Nice flat course, and its handicapped, so we all finish approx the same time. We’ll be meeting at the Direct Trade car park on Sandall Stones Road on the Kirk Sandall industrial estate (the road almost opposite the Holly Bush pub). Your more than welcome to come down for a run.

    We’re a very inclusive club. No one is ever left behind on any runs.
    If your running 8 miles already, then you’d be head and shoulders above a beginners group. The sessions we run are a Tuesday quality session. So we’d be running intervals or hills. They sound worse than they are, but they’re simply short bursts of effort for a set amount of time, and work fantastic for new runners. On a Thursday, we have group runs, and we split these into three so that people can have a pace of run comfortable to them. In your case, a Group 3 run will fit the bill for you.
    Come down on Thursday if you can make it to the Sportsman @ 18:45 and introduce yourself. We’re a friendly bunch with runners of all abilitites. Heather, Ann or Wayne will be leading Group 3 this week.
